What is CBD?
CBD stands for cannabidiol, a compound found naturally in hemp plants (cannabis plant). It's a naturally occurring substance used in products such as oil to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm and is non-psychoactive. It's cousin, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is psychoactive and found in marijuana.
There are three terms you may be familiar with - cannabis, marijuana, and hemp. And it can get very confusing, so we will break it down:
Cannabis or cannabis sativa is the actual name of the plant. It has two primary species - hemp and marijuana. Both of these contain CBD, but there is a higher percentage of CBD in hemp which has little (less than 0.3%) to no levels of THC compared to marijuana.
CBD Oil or Hemp Oil - is there a difference?
You bet there is a difference! CBD Oil is derived from the whole plant or "flower" of hemp and contains 80+ cannabinoid compounds - which are proving to be beneficial to several ailments.
Hemp Oil is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. There are NO cannabinoids - CBD or THC - in hemp oil. Hemp oil is packed with healthy fats and is often used in beauty products due to it moisturizing attributes.
